Itzak Still Waiting On Town’s Fulfillment of Christmas Promises

Colorado Springs, Co.-It has been one year since the town made Christmas promises to Jewish peddler Itzak that it has yet to fulfill.

“I’ve been waiting for one year,” Itzak says. “Last Christmas, I gave this town my heart, but the very next day, it seems they gave it away.”

Itzak arrived in Colorado Springs shortly before Christmas last year, where he began to peddle goods and unintentionally ruffle feathers. Although nearly killed by a drunken mob led by local merchant Loren Bray, Itzak decided to stay when the town made a set of promises on Christmas Eve. It appears that shortly after making these Christmas promises, however, the town collectively suffered a bout of amnesia.

“The land that the long haired man from the saloon said he knew was for sale,” Itzak continues, “I’ve heard nothing of this land since that night. The partnership with Loren Bray to sell merchandise in the countryside to customers that can’t make it into his store–I know nothing of such a partnership.”

There is one promise that Itzak is glad wasn’t fulfilled: the free subscription to Dorothy Jenning’s Gazette.

“That is a–how do you say it–a silver lining,” according to Itzak. “I did not find the paper impressive to begin with, and I heard about what happened when she wrote that book.”

After continuing that it might be best if Dorothy give up writing altogether, Itzak bemoans the fact that Dr. Mike took the lead in trying to turn the town in his family’s favor only to promptly forget about them.

“I feel like I was a prize, like something that she could use to show how she is welcoming and broad minded,” Itzak sighs. “For even her, after all she did for my family, to forget about us, it is a breach of promise I can’t really look past.”

Itzak says that he feels as though he needs to make a clean break and start over in another town.

“I’ve been patiently waiting,” Itzak continues. “But I can’t be patient any longer. If we get past this Christmas without anyone coming through on their promises, well, my family will have no choice but to move on.”

At press time, when asked if they planned to fulfill their promises of last Christmas to Itzak, the town collectively asked “Who?”
