Walnut Grove, Minn.-Miss Beadle is pleased to learn that one of her students knows where Mankato is located.
Reports indicate that newly relocated resident, Samantha “Sam” Higgins, came from Mankato. When she aggressively suggested that new schoolmate Jimmy Hill “toss a few” before school started and Jimmy asked her where she was from, he was excited to share that he knew where Mankato is.
“It’s just really exciting that Jimmy is aware of where a city in our very own state of Minnesota is located,” Miss Beadle comments. “Sometimes it’s hard to tell how much learning these kids are really doing, especially the boys–why, they could be out for weeks, months even, helping their fathers work their farms and then when they’re here they always seem to be up to hijinks. It’s just great to hear to something is sticking in their brains, even if it is just the location of one of the largest cities in our state.”
Although the feat may be small, Miss Beadle confirms that it is “very rewarding” and confirms that she is a “great teacher.”
Jimmy Hill, meanwhile, is amazed that Sam is wearing pants.
“I guess when you come from a big city like Mankato, you can do things like that,” Jimmy pondered. “To be honest, it surprised me that girls have legs like boys do.”
At press time, Laura was stealing Carrie’s apple and wondering if Jimmy would be impressed that she also knows where Mankato is located and her Pa delivers loads there “all the time.”
