Walnut Grove, Minn.- Newly arrived visitor, brother of the Wilders, and ne’er do well Perley Day Wilder has confirmed that after his sister, Eliza Jane, insisted he could never wear out his welcome he will, in fact, proceed to wear out his welcome.
“I’ve never seen a challenge I wasn’t up to, this one included,” Perley Day confirms. “If Eliza Jane is so set on me never being able to wear out my welcome, well, she better hang on to her hat because I am going to wear out my welcome so fast.”
When asked for his plans to wear out his welcome, it seems that Perley Day is largely targeting Almanzo.
“Almanzo has a nice horse there, and I think I could make some money on that,” Perley Day continues. “I think my plan will be to take this horse out running without his permission, maybe even engage in a race if I encounter someone, like say a doctor–but really, anyone will do–and do a little pre-race and get some bets flowing. This is clearly forbidden and something I shouldn’t be doing, but that’s what makes this a challenge: I must know what I am told I should not.”
At press time, Perley Day was noting that Barnum’s injury indicated that he was making good progress toward completing his challenge. Meanwhile, Harriet Oleson was upset that Perley Day didn’t wish to court Nellie but confirmed that is just the sort of behavior she would expect from someone with a name like Perley Day.
